We believe that as a company that aspires to lead, Horizon has a responsibility to make a strong and lasting contribution to society. For this reason we are active participants in several programs intended to improve people’s lives through training and support of innovation.
Through Cambridge University Entrepreneurs, Horizon is working to support the next generation of young innovators. We believe that the UK’s broader standing in the world is dependent on our ability to build the knowledge-based economy essential to deliver high levels of industrial growth for the future. For this reason, we provide support in time and finance to help some of the brightest minds to realize their potential.
Developing and honing talent is critical in today’s economy. This is why Horizon makes a point of hiring many young people early in their careers to give them a chance, train them well and provide them with long-term mentorship and opportunities to lead. We are also initiating a program to provide secondary school students the opportunity to apprentice with us in order to be exposed to all that the life science sector can offer as a career.
Horizon believes that the promise of gene-editing as a primary tool in the advancement of personalized medicine requires that the technology be disseminated as widely as possible and its use demonstrated for a wide variety of diseases. Through our Centers of Excellence (CoE) program, not-for-profit research institutions can gain access to rAAV GENESIS™ for mutually-interesting research programs at no cost and with initial training and on-going project support from Horizon.
We want to make a difference in improving the quality of life for cancer sufferers (and other diseases in time) by researching and supporting the development of novel personalized medicines. Research by its nature, however, takes time, comes in increments and is a global community scale effort.
Horizon’s charitable philosophy in the interim is to sponsor local centers that provide palliative care and counseling support to cancer sufferers and their families during the difficult late stages of disease progression, in the hope that one day we can help find new therapies for treating these patients.
